Meet Our Staff
We have decided, here at James and Alex Dance Studios, that it is only fair our students get to know a little more about each of our lovely, talented staff members.
We have given each of them a short questionnaire, so that they can share with you guys their dance backgrounds, experience, advice and what inspires them. Oh, and they included photos too!
So, let’s not waste anymore time, let us introduce you to this week’s featured member of staff…
Marina Styles
Marina has been teaching at James and Alex Dance Studios for 4 years. She teaches Salsa and Bachata.
Born in Novosibirsk, Russia, Marina took part in many dance events throughout her childhood. She studied at a music school, but at 15 years old, she started dancing with a local school of Russian folk dance, The House of Culture.
After moving to Dubai and many years of performing, Marina trained as a dance instructor, thanks to James Castro.
“I like all styles of dance. Dance is connected with music, they go hand in hand – it’s natural. When I hear music, I want to dance” says Marina. She wishes she could have trained in all styles of dance when she was a child, but she is glad to be where she is today.
Marina enjoys taking part in Ballet and Contemporary classes, as well as teaching Salsa and Bachata. Her favourite part about teaching is being surrounded by people who love to dance. She enjoys seeing the progress each of her students have made and feels proud of those who become great dancers. Marina’s aim is to help people learn to dance, regardless of their age or physical capabilities.
Marina’s role model is Maya Plisetskaya, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century. Plisetskaya performed on stage until she was 60 years old, for 50 years she danced with the Bolshoi ballet. Plisetskaya’s passion, talent and dedication inspired Marina – she aims to keep dancing for as long as she has the physical strength.
Marina’s advice to all aspiring dancers is to never give up. Keep working hard to achieve your dreams.
One of her favourite quotes is this:
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer . Always remember that you have the strength , patience, and the passion to reach for the stars and change the world . “ – Harriet Tubman
Marina teaches the 4 week Salsa Course which starts the first Tuesday and Saturday of every month.
She also teaches beginners Bachata every Sunday at 9pm.
Available for private classes on request.
